WELCOME TO FOURTH PRESBYTERIAN
We are a congregation with a love of learning and sharing the Word of God through mission.
We honor the truth that “God so loved the world” and so we seek to be an inclusive, welcoming congregation for “the world”. We would love to add your energy and ideas, your experiences and your hopes, to our mix and invite you to share this journey with us!
We are a Church family where all are welcome.
We provide a warm and caring atmosphere where visitors can feel welcome and want to come back. We believe we should worship, praise God and share the Good News of Jesus Christ in all we do. Through our programs, activities and stewardship, we strive to serve God and the community and doing what we can for the Glory and service of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Predominately, duties and services are provided by the congregation through volunteering their gifts and talents to serve in our church in lieu of hired staff and contractors.
Our church was established in 1907 under the name Westminster Presbyterian Church in University Place, Nebraska. When University Place was annexed into Lincoln, Nebraska in 1926 the name of the church was changed to Fourth Presbyterian Church, as we were the fourth church of the Presbyterian denomination to be established in the city of Lincoln. In 1964 the current site was selected for our existing church to accommodate our growing congregation and we entered the building in October of 1966. Today, we are the only Presbyterian Church in North Lincoln (North of “O“ Street).
Meet Our Pastor
Pastor Steve
Steve loves soccer, God and proper British fish and chips (not necessarily in that order).
Fourth Presbyterian Church welcomed Pastor Steve Pointon into our church family in September of 2013. Originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, Pastor Steve has presided as Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministry for Presbyterian churches in Mississippi and Michigan.
As our pastor, he fosters a collegial leadership style; empowering everyone to participate and share ideas, encourages our strengths and talents, while leading by example, accepting responsibility and working together with us as a team.
Born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Steve has been actively involved with the church his whole life. He was elected to the congregational committee of Newtownbreda (St John’s) Presbyterian at the age of 17. Since graduating in Law with Politics from the University of Ulster in 2005; Steve worked for the Northern Ireland Assembly as a researcher and Public Relations Officer.
Steve then began work for Youth Link, a cross denominational youth work body established to promote biblical principles of reconciliation and good practice.Through his role as a Community Relations Officer Steve was primarily involved in trying to empower young people within the democratic process within Northern Ireland and good relations work with young people including conflict transformation and cross-border initiatives. He also spent some time in Serbia delivering peace and conflict workshops.
Steve is an Adjunct Instructor at Nebraska Wesleyan University teaching a Freshman class focused on Conflict Theory and Northern Ireland as well as an HHP class that explores role of Sport in Society.
Steve is also a qualified soccer coach and uses soccer as a tool to teach and equip young people in the Lincoln Community. He is currently the Recruitment Coordinator & Assistant Men's Coach for Nebraska Wesleyan University and is a Varsity Assistant Coach for Lincoln Southwest High School.
Steve is married to the Rev. Dr. Melodie Jones Pointon (Senior Pastor of Eastridge Presbyterian Church, Lincoln) and together they have two children, Phoebe (13) & Eli (12).
